This is a rare occurrence, but does happen. The Kenwood stereo in the MazdaSpeed Protege stops functioning for no reason. There is obviously a bug in the stereo's computer system. The screen on the display will go black or have red lines or dots. Music will still play for a brief period before all goes dead. The radio will then tilt 90 degrees so you can remove the face.
The stereo can be brought back to life, however, by simply pressing the reset button on the front of the stereo face. The reset button is a little white button to the left of the SRC button. You can depress the button with a pin, paperclip or pen head. The only problem is that all presets will be lost and you will have to reprogram the radio to your liking.
Hopefully Kenwood can determine the cause of this little bug, but for now it's just one of the quirks of owning a MazdaSpeed Protege.
